A funny story?

Last week, I was at the gas station filling the truck with gas. I was alone. The kids were all at home. (Important to remember) School was closed due to snow.

So anyway I am filling the truck with gas. It is freezing cold (not that important). When one of the workers comes out to check the trash cans. You know the trash cans that are maybe a foot from the the row of gas tanks. OK-- so she is checking the one next to my pump and I notice. She is SMOKING!!!!! Yes, she has a cigarette in her mouth while she is checking out the trash.

OK--at this point I am thinking boy--isn't this dangerous??

So what do you think I did? What would you do?

She starts to remove the garbage can liner--it is windy and cold. Then she decides to put that liner back in.

Thinking it might be rude to tell her that it is extremely dangerous to be smoking next to the gas pumps. If I really wanted to be a friend I would tell her that smoking is extremely dangerous.

Well as I am freezing and not sure what Ms. Manners would do. I do the only thing I could think of when I only had feeling in one of my hands. Yes, I helped her put the trash liner back into the garbage can and told her to have a good day.

Now--in my defense--I did call back to the gas station later and tell a worker. I am thinking that I might call back again and talk to a manager.

According to Mom and Deanie--I need to call back and make sure that the manager got the message.

And Matt
agrees.

So what do you think? What would you have done?

well, helping her opened up an avenue to get on her good side! Maybe a random comment like, "Man, I can't imagine the bang one of these things would make if it caught on fire!" ( no personal attack there)

The manager did need to know, but THAT manager smokes as well, so I'm afraid to say it may not help.

I'm glad you were not blown to smitherines!

Honestly in my ditziness I probably wouldn't have even thought about the potential ramifications of the cigarette's proximity to the gas pumps. Although if I had thought about it and realized what could happen I probably would have freaked out about it (to myself) and would call back and make sure the manager got the message. :)

Hmmm...I think you did the right thing!! I'm with Vanessa..I don't think I would have thought about the dangers.

Call back! Thats my opinion :)
